My Memorable Meal Essay

559 Words3 Pages

I think the most memorable meal I have ever eaten last December 21 of 2013 during our Christmas party in the Philippines. There was a lechon (roasted pig), a bam-i (fried noodle), tinolang manok (ginger native chicken soup), goat caldereta, dinuguan (pork blood stew), fresh lumpia (spring roll), and rice. For our dessert was a fruit salad and a Filipino native wine name tuba made from coconut.
It was memorable because of the presence of my family and friends back home in the Philippines celebrating Christmas with me. It was also a thanksgiving dinner for my family for protecting my family from the Typhoon Haiyan that hit part of my province. The combination of food and having family enjoying the food was the most memorable one.

... us Italians, it is just another year to enjoy the tradition. The meat sauce comes first. It is a combination of hamburger, onions, tomatoes, spices, sausage, and wine that cook down and simmer for the rest of the day. This famous sauce is so delicious that I spoil most of my appetite from eating bread dipped in sauce all day long. Next comes ravioli, the pasta must be made and chilled, along with the two types of filling meat and cheese. The recipe is quite simple but when it comes to assembling it gets a little tricky. We create an assembly line to speed the process up. I am in charge of rolling out the pasta into thin, long strips. My sister fills the pasta with both fillings while applying an egg wash to the outer edges of the pasta. Finally my mom presses them closed with a fork and transfers them to the fridge where they wait until dinner time. The Italian sausages then have to be browned and boiled in the meat sauce. Lasagna is the easiest so we save that for last a simple layering of the cheese, meat, noodles, and sauce. Then the caprese salad, made of tomatoes and mozzarella, is assembled. Last but certainly not least cannoli filling is made with ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and orange zest. Once all the food is prepared, it is time to enjoy. We set the table just before everything is cooked through. We use gold placemats with fine white and gold china. There is an elegant candle center piece with crystals surrounding the plates of food. Christmas Eve is the one night my family truly indulges in the luxury of homemade Italian food. Even with all the hard work, I wouldnt do Christmas Eve dinner any other way.
